OPEN UNIVERSITY

In his own life-time the prophet (P.B.H.U) had so popularised the
taste for knowledge that even the camel-drives while they grazed
their camels in the plains and deserts continued to learn religious
sub-jects.Hadrat Bra bin Aazib says:''We did not hear all the traditions
directly from the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H).Our friends used to relate
them to us while we were grazing our camels.''
In other words. in the time of the prophet (P.B.U.H) himself the desedts
the light of knowledge had radiated every-where and the deserts and
grazing grounds had become an Open University of Islam.
Ali bin Abi Zurra reported:  ''At this
death the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H) left a hundred thousand
learned Companions, men and women, who used to relate the
Prophet's (P.B.U.H) traditions to the people.''All this was the favour
of unlettered man who had never learned anything from a teacher,
university or books.

Thornas Carlyle Writes:

''Another point is noteworthy here.Muhammad had not received
education from any teacher. He was unlettered. He had neither
learned the ancient nor modern knowledge from any teacher for
he was above all this. But everything he uttered was full of practical
wisdim. He remained silent whe there was no to speak; but when
he spoke, every word uttered by him was a pearl of wisdom, sincerity
and profound knowledge.''

ROCKED ALL THE CREEDS

Before the advent of islam, beliefs and doctrines,
creeds and ideals were static. In some parts of the
world stones were worshipped, in others prostrations
were performed before trees. Some were
worshippers, other hero-worshippers.Some were
wor-shipped the Sun; others held the moon as their
deity.Fire-worship was in vogue at some places and at
others people were caught in the web of superstition.
some by way of barren philosophy regarded time as
God;some thought matter was all in all; some were
believers in trinity and others in a plural deity. some
ascribed sons and daughters to Allah; some had set
themselves up as gods. There were some who be-
Iieved in god,but gave him no higher station than a
husband or father. Mythology reigned at most places.

EVERY MOMENT OF MY LIFE

THIS CHALLENGE RESOUNDS
EVEN TO-DAY

Muhammad's(P.B.U.H) life was  a model of self-control, purity and truth.
Even as a child, his person- ality so impressed the people that they used to
call him Al-Amin (the trustworthy). Never did he prefer his personal wants
to the needs of his family. He came of a family exalted in prestige and honour
in the whole of Aradia. Whenever he(P.B.U.H) faced objections and opposition
from Quresh, he would ask them straight:

''O Quresh!Every moment of my life has been spent before your eyes.
tell me if during all this time you have seen any evil in me?''

this challenge resounds even to-day in the East and the West and the worst
enemy of the prophet (P.B.U.H) dare not point an  accusing finger at
any episode of his life.
